Renowned around the world for his time spent in the DTL and forging a legendary career at Headhunters. Veddi did it all. By winning the Supercopa three times in a row, being a player manager and leading Headhunters to Cup and League glory. But very few remember Veddi for these feats. What has always over shadowed his career, is his short fuse, bad temper and off the pitch lifestyle. So today Marco answers some personal questions for the GD Tigres fans as they prepare to start the league campaign.
Interviewer- Welcome Marco to your first interview as a Tigres player. I suppose the question is how are you settling?
Marco- Fine, just getting to grips with the language but other than that the guys have been great.
Interviewer- Excellent. So I quess the question is what prompted this u-turn on what seemed like a happy retirement?
Marco- Well when the DTL finished it was at mine and Headhunters peak. We had achieved the league title and we were on a high. It wasn’t until the following days we got news that the DTL wasn’t being picked up for another season. It felt like there was no closure. We didn’t get a chance to defend the title so I’ve had this itch for a long time now to just play the game again. So I decided anybody who wanted me I was theirs.
Interviewer- But your now a established TV/Movie star. At the age of 31 can you still compete with the younger players.
Marco- Forget about the TV and Movies stuff. I’m here to play the game I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think I could compete. I am in better shape now than I was back then and id even say I’m even more hungry now than I ever was.
Interviewer- So what can the Tigres fans expect from you?
Marco- Well expect me to be a leader because I’m not a sheep I’ve never followed the flock. I will come on the pitch and share my wisdow with the younger lads.
Interviewer- Don’t you think that is the Captains job?
Marco- Well it is. But leadership comes in many forms. I can lead by example. Come off the bench score or assist my team in winning.
Interviewer- How have you envisioned your start here in the DTL Portugal?
Marco- To be honest I expect to start on the bottom rung of the ladder. So I need to impress the manager. Show him I’ve got the fitness and the technique. I’ve got to show the fans first of all to trust me. Because they need to get behind the players and the team. I want the fans behind me 110% and what they give me I will give it back to them 10 fold.
Interviewer- Great. Now just one question. Sion has signed for GD Tigres as well. What are you thoughts?
Marco- Veddi- Well right now I am focusing on my own game so I imagine Sion has come here to do exactly what I plan to do. He is the type of player who is like me. Born in the fires of competition. Doesn’t like to no succeed. So I can imagine he is ready as much as I am.
Interviewer- What about the bust up that lead to your Order exodus.
Marco- Sion and I haven’t spoke in almost a decade. Maybe its fate we are being trust together in the same team after all this time. All I can say is football is a game that requires no language so even if we don’t speak to one another , we shouldn’t need to.
Interviewer- Sion is in the same position as you do you see some competition for a place within the side.
Marco- Sion, Veddi….we are both cut from the same cloth. We both are passionate, we are leaders , we are hungry. So as far as competition….we didn’t need to be in the same squad to be in competition. We have always wanted to one up the other so I can see this being a positive thing for GD Tigres as they will most certainly get the most out of both of us.
Interviewer- That’s great news for the fans. Now looking at your body now and to how it was lets say five years ago do you think your larger frame will have a impact on your game.
Marco- Yeah I’ve bulked up abit but that’s not slowed me down abit. I guess it will just make my presence on the field now even more daunting for defenders.
Interviewers- Ok last question if you had to describe yourself in one word what would it be?
Marco- Determined
Interviewer- That’s great Marco thanks for your time.
Marco- No problem.
